2017 VOLKL FLAIR 78 DEMO SKIS 156 CM WithMARKER LADY TCX 11 DEMO BINDINGS

The core is the single most important part of a ski because it defines a skiâs character and flex. Wood cores set the standard but several manufacturers use foam cores and or a combination of wood and foam. You will often hear the term Core Shot, this is damage which has removed a large amount of base material and deep enough to reach the core of the ski. A simple P-Tex repair is not an option.
What is required is a Base Weld, this includes using a similar material that the ski base is made out of and actually welding it back into the damaged area that was removed. Unlike P-Tex repairs, the Base Weld Material is much heavier and requires high heat (Base Weld Gun) and spooled material to weld into the core shot. Be aware of Base Welds near the edge of a ski, they have habit of actually popping out of the repair core shot. This repair is generally what is used on typical ski/board tunes and can be dripped P-Tex stick and or use a spool gun with P-Tex material, this practice is applied to fine scrapes, scratches, and gouges that do not penetrate the core of the ski. Once P-Tex repairs are complete the skis are ready to be grinded. If a ski has a blown edge it can be minor or it can major. Minor first, if the base of the ski/board took a hard enough hit it can compress, distort, or push the edge out of being true straight, Typically this type of damaged can be repaired by slight tapping of a hammer and additional ski edge tuning. Major blown edges, well you now have a pair of rock skis!! Typically this is an edge that has ben broken off from the entire ski edge. The repair is to replace the edge with a compatible ski edge replacement, done by fist cutting an sizing the replacement and then literally screwing in the replacement edge, applying epoxy and last but not lease a Base Weld. No guarantees on a replaced edge so, be aware if you have this repair performed that the skis are on borrowed time.Generally speaking topsheet repair involves some type of epoxy and is strictly a cosmetic repair, if the topsheet has completely cracked through to the core, it is now a wall ornament! Most skis can be remounted 3 times without effecting the integrity of the ski, that being said, if you bought a pair of skis that did not have adjustable demo bindings mounted on them and the retail bindings are mounted to small or to big to fit your boots, you still have 2 more times to mount the bindings.
