Customer service is our sole purpose and the reason for our success; otherwise a small independent shop would never survive in Vail and Beaver Creek Colorado. Thank You for Viewing Our Listings! What we do offer are 9 different views of each ski for you to draw your own opinion.
We can objectively define any defects and or major defects of a ski, please see below what to look for and how to understand what these terms mean. Topsheet - The top covering of ski typically fiberglass-composite material, plastic or a combination, shiny, resist impact well but, not uncommon to chip. Base - Bottom of ski, Various types of base materials are used for skis bases allowing ski tuners to structure the base according to conditions as well as easily make repairs. The base of the ski requires what is call a structure, fine lines, broad lines that are grooved into the base allowing the ski to glide across the snow.Best example of not having a structure is to pour some water on to a table and lay a sheet of paper on top of it, then pull it across the table, you will see how the paper sucks down onto the table, this is an example of no structure, no glide! Sharp edges equal nice carving ability, slice into hard pack and or ice conditions, depending on the bevel of the base edge and side edge can determine how quickly the edge grabs the snow. The amount of base edge bevel will affect the ability of the ski/board to pivot on the snow. Side edge beveling will give the skis more grip on the snow surface.
The core is the single most important part of a ski because it defines a skiâs character and flex. Wood cores set the standard but several manufacturers use foam cores and or a combination of wood and foam. You will often hear the term Core Shot, this is damage which has removed a large amount of base material and deep enough to reach the core of the ski.A simple P-Tex repair is not an option. What is required is a Base Weld, this includes using a similar material that the ski base is made out of and actually welding it back into the damaged area that was removed. Unlike P-Tex repairs, the Base Weld Material is much heavier and requires high heat (Base Weld Gun) and spooled material to weld into the core shot. Be aware of Base Welds near the edge of a ski, they have habit of actually popping out of the repair core shot. This repair is generally what is used on typical ski/board tunes and can be dripped P-Tex stick and or use a spool gun with P-Tex material, this practice is applied to fine scrapes, scratches, and gouges that do not penetrate the core of the ski.
Major blown edges, well you now have a pair of rock skis!! Typically this is an edge that has ben broken off from the entire ski edge. The repair is to replace the edge with a compatible ski edge replacement, done by fist cutting an sizing the replacement and then literally screwing in the replacement edge, applying epoxy and last but not lease a Base Weld. No guarantees on a replaced edge so, be aware if you have this repair performed that the skis are on borrowed time. Generally speaking topsheet repair involves some type of epoxy and is strictly a cosmetic repair, if the topsheet has completely cracked through to the core, it is now a wall ornament! Most skis can be remounted 3 times without effecting the integrity of the ski, that being said, if you bought a pair of skis that did not have adjustable demo bindings mounted on them and the retail bindings are mounted to small or to big to fit your boots, you still have 2 more times to mount the bindings.
